Hi, Brendan here!
On Thursday the 15th of December, I’ll be sleeping rough on the streets of Edinburgh in order to raise funds to tackle homelessness. The ‘CEO Sleep Out’ has been created by Social Bite with the aim of raising as much money as possible to build a village made of shipping containers, which will serve as temporary housing for homeless people.
We aren’t blessed with the warmest climate here in this part of the UK so I’m expecting to spend the night in sub-freezing temperatures for this fantastic cause.
Christmas is the time of year where we eat, drink and are merry with our families and friends. It is also an incredibly lonely and harsh time for our homeless populations. I’ll be armed with nothing other than a sleeping bag to take part in the event, in which around 100 CEO’s will sleep rough.
I’m asking for any donations you can make to allow us to raise as much money as possible to feed, house and get a homeless person back on their feet.
wHO ARE SOCIAL BITE?
Social Bite was created four years ago by Josh Littlejohn & Alice Thompson after being inspired by the concept of creating a ‘social business’. They opened a small sandwich shop in Edinburgh in 2012 with the plan to give their profits to causes they felt passionate about.
One day a homeless man named Pete (who sold the Big Issue outside the shop) asked for a job. From there on, Josh & Alice recruited more homeless people to work in their shop – now a quarter of their workforce is made up of people from a homeless background.
The next part of their plan is much bigger; working backwards to tackle homelessness full circle.
Social Bite plan on creating an innovative, low cost, safe living environment for 20 people for around 12 months. During this time the residents will be provided with extensive support in a controlled environment where they will learn new skills and get their lives back on track.
After 12 months Social Bite will help to transition residents into permanent accommodation and provide employment in Social Bite’s broader business.
I’ve set up a Just Giving page for cash donations:
Alternatively, if you’d like to donate any vouchers/items that can be used for raffle prizes please contact Michelle McGuinness email@example.com
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
